A05 Finance Compliance Officer

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Compliance Officer to join a collaborative and supportive team based in Brisbane CBD. This role offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact by ensuring financial compliance and supporting digital transformation. You will be part of a forward-thinking department that is committed to sustainable economic prosperity and continuous improvement. The vacancy is for a 3-month contract with the possibility of extension.

What you'll do:

As a Finance Compliance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the department’s commitment to robust financial governance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you reviewing compliance frameworks, providing guidance to colleagues facing challenges with their obligations, and leveraging your digital skills to enhance knowledge repositories. You will coordinate reviews of training materials, design online workflows that streamline manual processes, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders will be essential as you consult on emerging issues and contribute to the preparation of key reports. Success in this role will come from your attention to detail, your willingness to share knowledge with others, and your dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

  • Conduct comprehensive financial governance and compliance activities, including analysis and reporting on small business on-time payments.
  • Perform business integrity screening by analysing financial activities to ensure adherence to established standards.
  • Approve customer and vendor master data while maintaining high levels of data integrity through regular checks.
  • Prepare detailed corporate card usage reports, monitor compliance, and provide educational support to stakeholders.
  • Manage gifts and benefits reporting processes while offering clear advice on related policies.
  • Assist with updates to financial policies by staying informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and departmental guidelines.
  • Identify and resolve errors in financial transactions or master data promptly to maintain accuracy across systems.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to address ad hoc issues efficiently, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication.
  • Support the collection and preparation of financial information for senior management reports, contributing valuable insights for decision-making.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive finance knowledge database, including up-to-date training materials and process maps.

What you bring:

To excel as a Finance Compliance Officer, you will bring proven experience in financial analysis or compliance roles within large organisations or government settings. Your technical proficiency with digital tools will allow you to drive process improvements while maintaining accurate records. You are known for your collaborative spirit—valuing teamwork as much as individual contribution—and your ability to communicate complex information clearly. Your empathy ensures you support colleagues from all walks of life while promoting an inclusive culture. A keen eye for detail helps you spot discrepancies quickly; your organisational skills mean you can juggle competing demands without losing sight of quality or deadlines. Above all else, your commitment to ethical practice sets you apart as someone who can be relied upon when it matters most.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) is highly regarded.
  • Experience using SAP S/4HANA and Signavio would be advantageous for managing finance-related processes efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to build enduring relationships with colleagues across diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities for preparing reports, delivering training content, and advising stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach combined with a sense of responsibility towards achieving outcomes collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Commitment to upholding principles of equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and best practices in public sector finance operations.
