Facilities Officer

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Officer to join a highly respected public sector organisation in Brisbane, dedicated to fostering equity and excellence within the education system.

This role offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact by providing expert advice and consultancy services on facilities planning, investment, and asset management across a diverse portfolio of educational sites. You will be part of a supportive team that values inclusion, diversity, and professional growth, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes. With a strong commitment to human rights and community investment, this organisation provides an environment where your interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and passion for service can truly shine. Flexible working opportunities and ongoing training are just some of the benefits you can expect as you help shape safe, capable learning environments for Queensland’s future.

  • Play a pivotal role in supporting schools and educational centres through expert facilities planning and asset management advice, ensuring every student has access to safe and inspiring learning spaces.
  • Join a collaborative team that prioritises inclusion, diversity, and professional development, offering flexible working opportunities and continuous learning pathways.
  • Contribute to a progressive vision of equity and excellence in education by delivering high-quality capital works, maintenance projects, and field-based facility support services.

What you'll do:

As a Facilities Officer based in Brisbane, you will play an integral part in shaping the physical environments where students learn and thrive. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you engaging directly with school staff, regional teams, external partners, and senior leaders to provide expert guidance on all aspects of facilities planning—from strategic investment decisions to hands-on asset management. You will be instrumental in coordinating the delivery of capital works projects and maintenance programmes that align with organisational goals for safety, inclusivity, and operational excellence. By preparing insightful reports for senior stakeholders and conducting rigorous audits of physical assets, you will help ensure that every facility under your care meets the highest standards. Your collaborative approach will foster strong relationships across teams while your commitment to professional development will empower others around you. This is your opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Queensland’s education landscape by creating environments where both students and staff can flourish.

  • Provide client-focused facilities services and tailored advice to staff in schools, regional centres, educational institutions, and the wider community on a broad spectrum of planning and asset management matters.
  • Deliver high-level information, guidance, and support services to clients regarding facilities investment strategies and operational best practices.
  • Coordinate closely with regional facilities teams, infrastructure divisions, and external service providers to ensure seamless delivery of comprehensive facilities services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and partner agencies to offer robust field-based facility support that meets the evolving needs of educational clients.
  • Prepare detailed ministerial responses, reports, briefing materials, and documentation that inform decision-making at senior levels.
  • Adopt business practices aligned with division standards while ensuring compliance with established processes and quality benchmarks.
  • Manage the delivery of designated capital works projects, maintenance activities, and facilities services within defined scope, budgetary constraints, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Advise senior officers on complex facilities planning issues while contributing insights into asset management strategies that drive long-term value.
  • Conduct thorough operational audits of physical assets and report findings to inform ongoing improvements in asset utilisation.
  • Support the professional development of regional staff by sharing knowledge in relevant competencies and participating in training initiatives.

What you bring:

To excel as a Facilities Officer in this role you will bring proven expertise in providing practical advice on facilities planning within complex organisational structures—preferably those serving educational or community-focused missions. Your ability to connect empathetically with stakeholders from varied backgrounds will enable you to deliver responsive solutions tailored to their unique requirements. You are adept at collaborating across teams—both internally among colleagues from different disciplines as well as externally with contractors or service providers—to achieve shared objectives efficiently. Your written communication skills are exceptional; you can distil complex information into clear reports or briefings that inform strategic decisions at all levels. Project management comes naturally to you: balancing competing priorities while maintaining focus on quality outcomes is one of your strengths. You have experience conducting thorough audits or reviews that lead directly to tangible improvements in asset performance or service delivery. Above all else you are committed to fostering inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued—and you understand how this ethos contributes not only to individual wellbeing but also organisational success. Your openness to continuous learning ensures you remain adaptable amid changing circumstances while upholding sound governance practices throughout your work.

  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality facilities planning advice within large or complex organisations—ideally within education or public sector settings.
  • Proven ability to deliver client-focused solutions by understanding stakeholder needs across diverse communities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with a track record of working effectively alongside multidisciplinary teams as well as external service providers.
  • Excellent written communication abilities for preparing detailed reports, ministerial briefings, responses, and other key documentation.
  • Sound project management capabilities including managing budgets, timelines, scopes of work, quality standards, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience conducting operational audits or reviews of physical assets with an eye for detail that drives continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to inclusive practices that promote diversity, equity, health, safety, wellbeing—and an understanding of how these principles enhance workplace culture.
  • Capacity for agile learning with a willingness to pursue ongoing professional development opportunities for yourself and others.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks or risk management processes relevant to public sector infrastructure operations is highly regarded.
