Business Analyst
A highly respected government agency in Canberra is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Business Analyst to play a pivotal role. As a Business Analyst based in Canberra you will work closely with stakeholders to document complex processes, define requirements, and contribute to the development of future-state systems and services that align with strategic goals. The role requires a strong foundation in business analysis, stakeholder engagement, and data fluency, along with a collaborative and adaptable mindset.
What you'll do:
- Document complex and routine business processes using BPMN, flowcharts, and structured templates to ensure clarity and alignment with organisational objectives.
- Analyse current and future state processes to identify integration points, compatibility issues, and opportunities for improvement within broader system architectures.
- Conduct comprehensive gap analyses to translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements that drive solution design.
- Define and document future-state processes, systems, and business models that align with strategic goals and operational priorities.
- Engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders including policy makers, operational teams, and technical experts to gather insights and build consensus.
- Foster team alignment by supporting co-design practices and facilitating open communication among all project participants.
- Utilise data analysis tools such as SAS, Power BI, or Tableau to interpret information, create visualisations, and inform public sector reporting.
- Develop compelling business cases supported by thorough cost-benefit analyses and risk assessments to guide decision-making processes.
- Support procurement activities by managing tender processes including RFQ documentation preparation, evaluation procedures, and vendor engagement in accordance with government policies.
- Build strong working relationships through clear communication, active listening, regular check-ins with stakeholders, adaptability to changing environments, openness to feedback, and responsiveness to direction.
What you bring:
- Demonstrated experience capturing and documenting complex business processes using BPMN or flowcharts in order to support integration analysis or inform solution design.
- Proven ability to conduct gap analyses that identify areas for improvement in current processes while translating business needs into clear requirements for future-state systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills evidenced by building effective working relationships across diverse teams; adaptable approach when responding to feedback or shifting priorities; willingness to take direction as needed.
- Expertise in engaging collaboratively with stakeholders from various backgrounds—including policy makers, operational staff, and technical professionals—to achieve shared goals.
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis techniques using platforms such as SAS, Power BI or Tableau; ability to interpret data sets for public sector reporting purposes.
- Experience developing detailed business cases incorporating cost-benefit analysis and risk assessment methodologies relevant to government settings.
- Familiarity with managing procurement activities including preparing RFQ documentation, evaluating submissions against criteria, and liaising with vendors according to established policies.
- Capacity for fostering team alignment through co-design practices while maintaining open channels of communication throughout project lifecycles.
