Here’s why you should consider applying for a temp role

Temporary assignments are on the rise. Why? These roles are often well paid - especially for temporary jobs with in-demand administrative or tech skills. If you’ve ever wondered about the benefits of temping then read on.

Find work quickly when needed. Looking to secure a job sooner rather than later? Taking on a temporary role can often be a much shorter process, may help you close gaps on your resume or enable you to get your foot in the door if you’re trying to get into a particular firm or industry.

Financial gain. There's no shortage of companies who are in need of either short-term or temporary employees ensuring you can make some quick gains financially by securing new assignments easily.

Work according to your own schedule. When talking to professionals who have been temping for a while, many love the freedom and flexibility to plan for holidays or personal projects in between jobs. But make sure you work hard and deliver great outcomes for the company you are temping with as it is important to leave a good impression at the end of your assignment.

Gain new skills across different industries. Always think strategically about your career. Although the short-term benefit of temping may be the hourly rate, ensure you pick assignments that enable you to gain knowledge, strengthen your skills and gain practical insight into an industry. Go the extra mile and use any opportunity to learn new technologies, systems, applications or programs.

Step out of your comfort zone and build relationships. Temping is a good way to learn from others by sharing ideas, building new relationships and practising skills you may have forgotten or never used before. Be approachable and reach out to peers around you to build rapport and establish mutual trust.

Work on your network. Temporary roles give you the opportunity to expand your professional network while adding potential new referees to your resume. Temping exposes you to a wider number of employers and colleagues that may be able to introduce you to other great contacts and opportunities.

With the number of temp job openings rising, we have reached parity between temporary and permanent business support roles we place professionals in.

Temping gives you a chance to keep your skills fresh, gain experience working in varied sectors while staying open to opportunities. You’ll be required to constantly adapt to new surroundings and people which may help boost your confidence. You will learn to think on your feet and be a team player with the ability to adapt to different personality types.
