Associate Director - Finance
A leading, complex organisation in the education and research sector is seeking a high-calibre Associate Director, Finance to join a senior leadership environment. This is a high-impact, strategic role operating within a large and multifaceted portfolio. You will partner closely with senior stakeholders to shape long-term strategy, support investment decisions, and drive performance across a highly complex ecosystem.
This role goes beyond traditional finance—focusing on insight, influence, problem-solving, and strategic execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial advice and commercial insight to senior leaders across a complex portfolio
- Lead scenario modelling, forecasting, and “what-if” analysis to inform decision-making
- Identify key issues, risks, and opportunities, delivering clear, actionable recommendations
- Support major investment decisions, including research initiatives and capital projects
- Translate financial and operational data into insightful narratives for non-finance stakeholders
- Drive continuous improvement across financial performance, governance, and processes
- Partner across a broad stakeholder group, navigating complexity and influencing outcomes
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning, including growth in key revenue streams
- Support and lead a small team, fostering capability and high performance
- Play a key role in change initiatives and organisational transformation
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in strategic finance, FP&A, or business partnering within a complex environment
- Strong capability in financial modelling, scenario analysis, and investment evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to quickly understand complex operating models and key value drivers
- Experience developing and presenting business cases and strategic recommendations
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders
- High levels of commercial acumen, curiosity, and problem-solving capability
- A growth-oriented mindset—someone looking to accelerate and continue developing
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and tell a clear story
- Professional qualifications (CA/CPA or equivalent) preferred; further study or strong academic performance highly regarded
