Senior Accountant
A leading financial services organisation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant – Fund Reporting to join their collaborative team in the heart of Sydney CBD. What you'll do:
- Prepare comprehensive annual financial statements for superannuation funds, ensuring all statutory requirements are met with precision and clarity.
- Draft detailed supporting notes and disclosures for financial statements, including conducting analytical reviews and providing insightful variance commentary.
- Perform thorough trial balance validation, adjustments, and integrity checks to guarantee alignment with accounting standards and audit expectations.
- Support the preparation and delivery of APRA returns such as SRF 320, 330, 720, ensuring all data submissions are accurate and consistent with financial statements.
- Conduct meticulous data validation, reconciliations, and variance analysis to maintain the highest standards of reporting quality.
- Maintain robust working papers and audit trail documentation that stand up to rigorous internal and external review processes.
- Perform general ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations while validating accounting entries and balance sheet positions for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify, investigate, and escalate any exceptions or discrepancies found during reconciliation processes to ensure prompt resolution.
- Support the execution of internal controls designed to safeguard data integrity throughout the reporting cycle.
- Track issue logs diligently by analysing root causes and implementing effective solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
What you bring:
- CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent) with at least five years’ experience in financial reporting within superannuation or funds management environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in preparing statutory financial statements for complex superannuation funds under tight deadlines.
- In-depth understanding of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) as well as APRA regulatory reporting requirements relevant to superannuation funds.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality documentation that is fully audit-ready and withstands scrutiny from both internal reviewers and external auditors.
- Exceptional analytical skills with a track record of performing detailed reconciliations, variance analysis, and problem-solving within large datasets.
- Experience managing auditor queries efficiently by providing clear explanations supported by robust working papers.
- Ability to rapidly onboard into new environments while adding value quickly through your technical proficiency and collaborative approach.
- Strong communication skills enabling you to work effectively across teams located in different cities while supporting shared objectives.
- Commitment to upholding compliance obligations by identifying risks early on and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.
