The Opportunity:
HCO is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Mount Barker head office, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

As Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining clean month end processes, reliable reporting, and clear visibility into service viability, all while upholding HCO’s values of fairness and transparency. What you will do:
As Senior Accountant at HCO Disability and Community Services, you will take ownership of all aspects of financial management from month end close through to commercial analysis. From preparing reconciliations and managing payroll entries to producing profit and loss reports by service area, your work will directly support informed decision making. You will oversee banking operations, maintain asset registers and cashflow forecasts, develop annual budgets, and ensure compliance with organisational policies and statutory requirements. Additionally, you will administer billing processes, including NDIS claims, while leveraging your analytical skills to track utilisation rates, investigate trends, and provide actionable insights to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete month end close activities such as bank and balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, provisions, and trial balance preparation.
- Post payroll transactions to the ledger, incorporating leave adjustments and other period-end entries for comprehensive reporting.
- Prepare detailed profit and loss statements by service and location with variance commentary to support strategic decisions.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and cashflow forecasts for ongoing resource visibility.
- Develop annual budgets and forecasts while monitoring actual performance against targets.
- Manage banking operations, including term deposits, to optimise liquidity.
- Prepare board reports and statutory submissions; support audits with thorough documentation.
- Ensure compliance by operating purchasing controls aligned with organisational policies.
- Administer BAS, including GST returns and other statutory returns; support charity and NDIS financial reporting
- Oversee billing processes purchase orders, supplier invoices, customer invoicing, payment runs, expense cards, NDIS claims, and debtor follow-ups.
Experience & Knowledge:
- Proven experience in month end close procedures: reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, provisions, and trial balance completion.
- Strong background in management reporting: profit and loss statements by service or cost centre with clear variance commentary.
- Expertise in service costing or commercial analysis; familiarity with NDIS pricing, claiming or equivalent funded-service frameworks.
- ERP system proficiency involving price lists and dashboard creation for process efficiency.
- Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and executive leaders.
- Alignment with HCO’s values: transparent communication, fairness in practice, and person-centred thinking, even in commercial tasks.
- Desirable: Experience within disability services, health sector, or not for profit environments.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Accounting, finance or commerce qualification or equivalent practical experience
- Desirable: CA / CPA or working towards
- NDIS Worker Screening clearance (or ability to obtain).
- Current unrestricted South Australian driver's licence.
