Payroll and HR Admin (25–30 hours per week)

Save job

A leading South Australian business is seeking a dedicated Payroll and HR Administration Officer to join their team. This part-time position, offering 25–30 hours per week, is perfect for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys supporting others, and values a positive workplace culture. The organisation is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing environment where your expertise will be truly valued. You will play an essential role in ensuring the smooth delivery of weekly payroll for over 120 employees while maintaining HR systems and providing vital administrative support across the business. With flexible working opportunities, staff product discounts, wellbeing initiatives, and a stable long-term outlook, this is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing and well-established team.

What you'll do:

As the Payroll and HR Administration Officer, you will be entrusted with managing the end-to-end weekly payroll process for a diverse workforce while also maintaining critical HR systems. Your day-to-day activities will involve handling sensitive employee data with care, responding thoughtfully to queries, preparing detailed reports for leadership, and supporting both onboarding processes and ongoing HR documentation needs. Success in this role comes from your ability to balance multiple priorities calmly under deadlines while always delivering work of the highest quality. You will be integral in upholding compliance standards across payroll functions while helping foster an environment where every team member feels supported. Your contribution will directly impact both operational efficiency and employee satisfaction within this thriving organisation.

  • Process weekly payroll for more than 120 employees with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all payments are accurate and compliant with relevant awards and legislative requirements.
  • Manage updates to payroll data in line with changes to Modern Awards or other compliance obligations, keeping records current and correct at all times.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to payroll queries from employees, providing clear information and empathetic support as needed.
  • Maintain the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and employee records with exceptional accuracy, safeguarding sensitive information and upholding confidentiality.
  • Process timesheets efficiently, handle leave requests, and manage absenteeism reporting to ensure smooth workforce operations.
  • Prepare regular payroll and HR reports for management review, contributing valuable insights into workforce trends and compliance status.
  • Support onboarding administration by preparing contracts, collecting documentation, and ensuring new starters have a welcoming introduction to the business.
  • Assist with general HR documentation tasks such as updating policies or procedures as directed by the manager.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the People & Safety team to deliver consistent service standards throughout the department.
  • Contribute positively to the overall workplace culture by participating in wellbeing initiatives and supporting continuous improvement efforts.

What you bring:

To excel as a Payroll and HR Administration Officer in this organisation, you will bring substantial experience managing complex payroll cycles alongside robust knowledge of Modern Awards compliance. You are known for your methodical approach - ensuring no detail is overlooked - and your ability to maintain composure when juggling multiple responsibilities. Your technical proficiency extends beyond basic payroll software; you are comfortable navigating advanced HRIS platforms while always respecting privacy protocols. Just as importantly, your interpersonal strengths shine through when assisting colleagues or answering questions about pay or entitlements. You thrive in collaborative settings where mutual respect is valued above all else. By combining these attributes with your commitment to continuous learning and improvement, you will help sustain an environment where everyone can do their best work.

  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing within medium or large organisations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Modern Awards frameworks along with proven knowledge of compliance requirements related to payroll legislation.
  • Previous exposure to fast-moving environments is highly regarded but not essential for success in this role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong organisational skills that enable you to manage competing priorities effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Advanced capability in using HRIS platforms for maintaining employee records accurately while ensuring data security at all times.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills that allow you to respond sensitively to employee queries while building trust across teams.
  • A professional approach marked by discretion when handling confidential information related to payroll or human resources matters.
  • Ability to prepare clear reports for management using both quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights from daily operations.
  • Proven track record of supporting onboarding processes including document preparation, contract management, and induction coordination.
  • Commitment to upholding company values around inclusivity, teamwork, reliability, and continuous improvement.
