About the role

Responsibilities
- Detect and investigate potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime risks across customer onboarding processes as well as ongoing monitoring activities.
- Conduct comprehensive customer due diligence (CDD) and know your customer (KYC) checks during both initial onboarding and throughout the customer lifecycle to ensure regulatory requirements are consistently met.
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to gather detailed due diligence information, ensuring all data collected is accurate, complete, and handled confidentially.
- Perform thorough investigations and risk assessments on transactions or accounts flagged as higher risk, escalating matters appropriately when necessary to protect the organisation’s interests.
- Prepare clear, accurate reports for submission to external regulatory bodies such as AUSTRAC, including international funds transfer instructions (IVTS) and suspicious matter reports (SMRs).
- Assist with screening for politically exposed persons (PEPs), sanctions lists, reputational checks, social media reviews, and AML/CTF risk assessments to maintain robust compliance standards.
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of financial crime processes and documentation by identifying areas for enhancement based on best practice guidelines.
- Contribute to upskilling colleagues within the Operations team by sharing knowledge about financial crime prevention strategies and RCDF compliance requirements.
- Assess applications for financial hardship in line with ASIC requirements while ensuring adherence to 31-day notice withdrawal rules and complaints management under Regulatory Guide 271.
- Resolve customer complaints or account discrepancies efficiently by providing informed answers while maintaining strict confidentiality over sensitive information.
About you
- Demonstrated experience in financial crime compliance roles within banking or financial services environments where you have managed AML/CTF obligations effectively.
- Comprehensive understanding of current industry standards relating to anti-money laundering legislation, counter-terrorism financing regulations, ASIC/APRA requirements, and best practice guidelines.
- Proven ability to conduct detailed CDD/KYC checks during both onboarding processes and ongoing monitoring cycles while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling you to prepare high-quality reports for regulators as well as engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills combined with sound judgement when performing investigations or risk assessments on potentially suspicious activity or transactions.
- Experience preparing AUSTRAC submissions including IVTS/Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs), along with familiarity in PEP/sanctions screening protocols.
- A collaborative approach that enables you to work effectively within cross-functional teams while also supporting colleagues’ learning through knowledge sharing or training initiatives.
- High level of discretion when handling confidential information coupled with an unwavering commitment to data privacy principles under relevant legislation such as the Privacy Act.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints or account discrepancies diplomatically while always maintaining professionalism.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development activities aimed at keeping your compliance knowledge up to date.
