Risk Management Specialist (6-month contract, temp to perm)

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technology Risk Management Specialist to join a highly respected organisation in the heart of Adelaide CBD. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about promoting and embedding robust risk management practices within a technology environment, supporting the achievement of strategic objectives and enhancing organisational resilience. You will play a pivotal part in shaping the risk culture, working closely with stakeholders across technology and business functions to ensure that risk-based decisions are made confidently and effectively. With flexible working arrangements, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to contribute to critical infrastructure services, this position offers both challenge and reward in equal measure. If you are looking for a role where your expertise in risk management can make a tangible difference, this is your chance to thrive.

What you'll do:

As a Technology Risk Management Specialist based in Adelaide CBD, you will be instrumental in driving forward the organisation’s commitment to robust technology risk management. Your day-to-day activities will involve facilitating key elements of the Technology Risk Management Program—working collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple departments to ensure that all aspects of technology-related risks are identified, assessed, managed, communicated clearly, and reported accurately. You will design tailored risk review programmes that keep pace with evolving threats while maintaining up-to-date records of risks and controls. By participating in networks dedicated to best practice sharing and continuous improvement initiatives—including audit preparation—you will help embed a culture where everyone understands their responsibilities regarding risk. Your ability to coordinate between technical teams, business leaders, external providers, auditors, and government agencies will be crucial as you ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting ongoing improvements in resilience. Through your efforts in training delivery and stakeholder engagement you will empower others to take ownership of their risks—ultimately contributing directly to the safety, sustainability, and success of vital public services.

  • Promote, support, and implement effective risk management practices aligned with enterprise and technology frameworks to enable informed decision-making throughout the organisation.
  • Facilitate the delivery of the Technology Risk Management Program by providing expert advice, developing risk approaches, and coordinating program activities with various stakeholders.
  • Engage systematically with risk and control owners to proactively identify, assess, evaluate, and manage technology risks and opportunities across all relevant domains.
  • Collaborate with technology stakeholders, business units, and corporate risk teams to develop, maintain, and enhance systems, processes, and tools that underpin technology risk management.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of governance policies, procedures, and training programmes that strengthen awareness and accountability for technology risks.
  • Participate actively in the organisation’s Risk Champions network to share best practices, drive engagement, and embed a holistic approach to risk management including cyber security and resilience.
  • Design, manage, and communicate comprehensive risk review programmes for the technology risk profile while ensuring timely updates to registers and profiles.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to progress open actions related to technology risks, close them off within agreed timelines, reassess control effectiveness, and update risk ratings as necessary.
  • Monitor mitigation controls for effectiveness by evaluating remediation efforts regularly and ensuring appropriate responses or treatments are implemented promptly.
  • Lead compliance efforts with state and commonwealth frameworks by coordinating evidence collection for audits on cyber security, resilience, vendor management, and general technology controls.

What you bring:

To excel as a Technology Risk Management Specialist you will bring proven experience navigating complex organisational landscapes where effective communication is just as important as technical know-how. Your background may include formal qualifications or significant hands-on exposure within business governance or compliance settings—ideally supported by direct involvement in regulated industries. You understand how robust frameworks underpin successful risk management programs: from initial identification through assessment/evaluation right through ongoing monitoring/reporting cycles. Your interpersonal skills allow you not only to engage constructively with colleagues but also foster trust among those responsible for implementing controls or responding during incidents. You have demonstrated your ability to juggle competing demands without losing sight of deadlines or quality standards—always striving for continuous improvement while remaining sensitive towards broader organisational goals. Whether facilitating workshops or preparing audit documentation your attention-to-detail ensures nothing falls through the cracks; meanwhile your collaborative approach helps create an environment where everyone feels empowered—and accountable—for managing their own risks.

  • A university degree in business administration, governance, audit or compliance—or equivalent work experience demonstrating deep understanding of these areas—is essential for success in this role.
  • Proven experience managing core risk processes such as assessment of risks/controls; building detailed risk profiles; third-party/vendor risk management; assurance activities; as well as preparing clear management reports is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of governance structures; practical application of process improvement concepts; familiarity with assurance methodologies; plus hands-on experience applying these principles within complex organisations is essential.
  • Experience applying established risk management principles specifically within technology environments (including projects or enterprise-wide initiatives) is highly desirable.
  • A track record operating successfully within regulated environments—managing both internal/external audits—and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation or standards is advantageous.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills combined with strong interpersonal abilities are needed so you can build positive relationships at all levels internally/externally.
  • Familiarity with current best practices in Technology Risk Management—including cyber security frameworks/resilience strategies—is beneficial but not mandatory if you bring willingness to learn quickly on-the-job.
  • Strong influencing/negotiation skills will help you facilitate workshops effectively while encouraging shared ownership among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities simultaneously—ensuring timely completion of actions/reviews—while maintaining meticulous attention to detail is important for this position.
  • A collaborative mindset coupled with sensitivity towards different perspectives ensures you can work harmoniously within cross-functional teams focused on shared outcomes.
