Governance Coordinator
Working closely with senior leaders and elected members, you will play a key role in ensuring legislative compliance, coordinating council and committee processes, managing governance initiatives and supporting the effective operation of the Governance Business Unit. As the Governance Coordinator, you will oversee the provision of governance and administrative support across the organisation while coordinating council and committee meeting processes, projects and compliance activities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Coordinating Council and Committee agendas, minutes and meeting processes
• Providing governance advice and support to internal stakeholders and elected members
• Leading governance initiatives, policy reviews and compliance activities
• Coordinating Annual Compliance Returns, elections and legislative requirements
• Supporting risk management, internal audit and local law review processes
• Managing governance registers, documentation and reporting
• Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including WALGA, auditors and government agencies
• Providing leadership and direction to Governance Officers and supporting capability development across the organisation
• Managing sensitive, confidential and politically complex matters with professionalism and discretion
About You
- Previous governance experience within local government or a highly regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act and governance frameworks
- Experience preparing Council and Committee agendas and minutes
- Exceptional written communication and report-writing skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and legislative deadlines
- Experience leading or mentoring team members highly regarded
