The Role
As the Work Health and Safety Coordinator at Adelaide Airport, you will be play a visible and trusted role in supporting safety for everyone who works at or visits the Airport.
Reporting to the WHS Manager, this position focuses on practical safety outcomes through relationships, judgment and assurance, rather than enforcement or paperwork alone.
You will work closely with internal leaders, frontline staff, contractors and third parties to help translate WHS expectations into everyday practice across a complex and diverse operating environment.
This role is well suited to anyone from an early-career WHS professional seeking to develop confidence, judgment and influence through real-world exposure and mentoring, through to a more experienced practitioner who enjoys engaging in with people, sharing expertise and contributing meaningfully in a sustainable Monday-Friday role.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong, credible relationships with managers, supervisors, employees and contractors to coach and mentor safe work practices in pragmatic and proportionate way.
- Undertake WHS inspections, tasks observations and targeted assurance activities to confirm that risk controls are understood, implemented, and effective in practice
- Provide practical WHS input into the review and continuous improvement of procedures, guidance material and systems to ensure they remain clear, usable and fit for purpose.
- Facilitate WHS consultation activities including WHS Committee meetings, workshops with Health and Safety Representatives, and Contractor Safety Committees.
- Support incident investigation with a focus on learning, system improvement, and prevention rather than blame.
- Maintain and administer WHS information within contractor management and incident/risk systems, ensuring sara supports meaningful insights and reporting
- Prepare reports and advice that help leaders understand risk trends and opportunities for improvement
About you:

You value conversation, influence and professional judgement over strict rule enforcement or prescriptive instruction. You understand that safety is more than compliance and can tailor your approach to the audience and situation.
You value autonomy, are comfortable contributing your perspective, are open to challenge and willing to learn and adapt.
You will also bring some of the following:
- Formal qualifications in WHS are highly desirable (Cert IV equivalent or in the process of completing study)
- Exposure to WHS activities in operational or contractor-heavy environments, with enough experience to recognise common hazards and appropriate controls
- A strong interest in coaching, mentoring and influencing others to improve safety outcomes
- Experience or familiarities with WHS systems such as incident reporting platforms or contractor management tools (desirable)
- Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders
- Comfort working with a high degree of autonomy, supported by guidance and collaboration with the WHS Manaher
- A practical mindset that priorities the quality and usability of safety processes over volume or complexity
- Capacity for regular site engagement and inspections across the whole airport precinct
