Alongside our partners the Rugby Union Players' Association (RUPA), we recently had the pleasure of hosting the Friends of RUPA Waratahs Networking Evening at our Robert Walters Sydney office. This event was curated to foster connections between professionals and senior players from the NSW Waratahs, providing a platform for meaningful interactions and career support.
These networking sessions present a fantastic opportunity to engage with players beyond the confines of the field, offering guidance and assistance as they navigate the unique challenges of high-performance sport and plan for life after retirement. We had the invaluable chance to delve into players' career aspirations and experiences while offering valuable advice and strategies for their professional journey post-rugby.
During the evening, Andrew Hanson, our Managing Director of Robert Walters Sydney, shared insights alongside other industry leaders on the transferable skills from sports to the corporate world. Emphasising the importance of networking and personal branding, Hanson highlighted the tremendous value of building these assets early on in one's career to facilitate a smooth transition into professional work post-retirement.
On top of this, Hanson emphasised the importance of athletes highlighting their experiences and career as professional rugby players on their CVs, as it showcases unique value to potential employers. He pointed out that the skills acquired and honed in the realm of professional sports are often highly regarded and sought after in the workplace.
As RUPA's Designated Recruitment Partner, Robert Walters is committed to providing tailored support for both current and former players. This partnership aims to equip players with a robust toolkit for navigating their career journey beyond the playing field. Learn more about our partnership here.
