Helping NSW Waratahs players prepare for life after rugby
At Robert Walters, we were proud to once again host a career networking evening for the NSW Waratahs at our Sydney office, in partnership with RUPA. Building on the success of last year’s event, this session continued our shared commitment to helping players explore life and career opportunities beyond rugby.
Designed to support players as they plan for their future, the evening brought together Waratahs players with professionals across a range of industries including finance, construction, real estate, recruitment, and more.
More than 10 players attended the event, which forms part of RUPA’s broader focus on long-term career development for its members. As RUPA’s Designated Recruitment Partner, Robert Walters is dedicated to providing tailored career guidance and professional support for players at all stages of their transition out of sport.
The evening began with a panel discussion hosted by RUPA CEO and former Wallaby, Justin Harrison. The panel offered practical insights into career planning and highlighted how skills such as leadership, adaptability, and teamwork gained through rugby can translate into success in the corporate world.
Following the panel, players had the opportunity to connect one-on-one with industry professionals in an informal setting. These valuable conversations allowed players to ask questions, gain insights into different sectors, and receive personalised advice on building a post-rugby career.
“Having the opportunity to talk to and get to know extremely successful individuals who are experts in their field is something that I am really grateful for. A career post rugby is something that all players need to consider no matter what point of their career they are at and having the networking event put on by RUPA is something that I think all players should get involved in moving forward.” — Fergus Lee-Warner, NSW Waratahs
We believe networking is one of the most effective ways for athletes to explore new career options and build the confidence needed for a successful transition. Events like this help players make meaningful connections and take active steps toward their future goals.
As RUPA’s recruitment partner, Robert Walters remains committed to supporting both current and former players in navigating the next phase of their careers. Through events like this, we aim to help players build lasting professional relationships and discover rewarding opportunities beyond the field. Learn more about our partnership.
