Estimator
Our client is a large, privately owned Australian engineering group with a strong national presence and rapidly growing WA operations. They deliver fabrication and project solutions across mining and industrial sectors. You’ll join a hands-on team working closely with workshop, operations and leadership, with the opportunity to contribute to and grow within an expanding estimating function.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to support the delivery of complex fabrication and workshop-based projects across mining and industrial sectors. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical understanding of how equipment is built, not just priced.
You will play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive tenders across a variety of scopes, working closely with operations, workshop teams and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for fabrication scopes including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, piping and structural components
- Develop first-principles estimates covering labour, materials, equipment and methodology
- Interpret engineering drawings, GA’s, isometrics and fabrication documentation
- Define build methodologies and execution strategies for workshop and site delivery
- Liaise with workshop, operations, procurement and BD teams to gather inputs and validate assumptions
- Support tender submissions, including scope clarification, pricing breakdowns and risk identification
- Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and validate cost assumptions
- Assist in bid reviews, commercial assessments and client presentations where required
About You
- Proven experience as an Estimator within fabrication, heavy engineering or mechanical environments
- Demonstrated experience estimating:
- Pressure vessels
- Heat exchangers
- OR similar coded / process equipment
- Strong understanding of workshop fabrication processes (cutting, welding, assembly, QA/QC)
- Ability to build estimates from first principles, not just rate-based pricing
- Experience working with drawings, specifications and fabrication standards
- Commercially astute with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with evolving processes and structures
Desirable
- Exposure to ASME or similar pressure equipment codes
- Background in boilermaking, mechanical trades or workshop environments
- Experience across mining, oil & gas or industrial sectors
Why Join
- Large, well-established engineering group with strong growth in WA
- Diverse pipeline across fabrication and project scopes
- Opportunity to influence and support a growing estimating function
- Long-term career progression as the team expands
Important
This role requires direct experience estimating fabricated equipment such as pressure vessels and heat exchangers. Candidates without this background will not be considered.
