Material Requirements Planner
A leading global organisation is seeking a Material Requirements Planner to join their collaborative Supply Chain & Operations team in Adelaide. This temporary opportunity offers you the chance to play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless production by managing the timely and accurate planning, ordering, and delivery of materials across an international network. With a rich heritage and a forward-thinking approach, this organisation is renowned for its commitment to quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will be empowered to work closely with suppliers, procurement, logistics, and warehousing teams, making a real impact on the efficiency of the end-to-end supply chain. If you are detail-oriented, thrive in a supportive environment, and are passionate about contributing to the success of a world-class operation, this is your chance to grow your career within a truly global business.
What you'll do:
As a Material Requirements Planner, you will be at the heart of ensuring that production lines run smoothly by orchestrating the flow of materials from suppliers through to manufacturing. Your day-to-day activities will involve running MRP system reports to assess material needs, generating purchase orders that align with both production demands and inventory strategies, and maintaining open channels of communication with suppliers to guarantee timely deliveries. You will also play an essential role in monitoring inventory levels, analysing usage patterns for optimal stock management, initiating inter-site transfers when necessary, and supporting ongoing process improvements. By collaborating with various internal teams such as procurement, logistics, warehousing, compliance, and external partners like dry goods suppliers, you will help safeguard against shortages or overstock situations. Your ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances while upholding meticulous documentation standards will be key to your success in this role.
- Run and review material requirements planning (MRP) system outputs to accurately determine material needs based on demand forecasts and inventory levels.
- Generate and release purchase orders aligned with production plans while considering inventory targets, minimum order quantities, and multiple order constraints.
- Monitor open orders diligently, proactively communicating with suppliers to confirm delivery schedules and expedite shipments as needed to ensure on-time delivery.
- Adjust purchase orders responsively in line with changes in production schedules or unforeseen supply delays, maintaining flexibility to support operational continuity.
- Perform thorough checks on work order parts lists, escalating any discrepancies promptly to maintain data integrity and prevent disruptions.
- Ensure all purchasing terms comply with established procurement contracts, including load building requirements, minimum order quantities, and lead times.
- Monitor upcoming production work order shortages for materials availability and communicate potential risks clearly to the planning team for timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and safety stock levels through regular analysis of usage trends; provide informed input for optimal batch sizing and reorder points.
- Initiate stock transfer movements for dry goods across internal sites as required, transacting stock adjustments efficiently to reflect real-time inventory status.
- Collaborate closely with procurement, logistics, warehouse teams, and suppliers to resolve supply issues; participate in weekly supplier meetings alongside the Purchasing Manager.
What you bring:
To excel as a Material Requirements Planner in this dynamic environment, you will bring hands-on experience from similar roles where you have managed material flows using sophisticated planning tools. Your background may include working within manufacturing or FMCG sectors where accuracy underpins every decision you make. You are adept at interpreting MRP outputs into actionable plans while balancing competing priorities across multiple projects. Your interpersonal skills allow you to build trust-based relationships both internally with colleagues from product management through warehousing and externally with suppliers who rely on your clear communication. You are known for your reliability when it comes to meeting deadlines or responding swiftly when unexpected changes arise. A natural collaborator who thrives on shared goals rather than individual achievement alone, you value continuous learning, always seeking ways to improve processes or share insights that benefit the wider team. Your technical acumen is matched by your ability to analyse trends deeply enough that you can anticipate future needs rather than simply react. Whether reconciling inventory discrepancies or supporting new initiatives aimed at streamlining operations further still, your contribution will be integral.
- At least two years’ experience in materials planning, inventory management or production scheduling within manufacturing or fast-moving consumer goods environments.
- Proven track record working with MRP/ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or JD Edwards; advanced proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Exceptional analytical abilities combined with strong organisational skills that enable you to manage multiple priorities effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills that foster positive relationships with suppliers as well as internal stakeholders across product management, procurement, operations and warehousing functions.
- Demonstrated responsiveness to evolving production needs coupled with a proactive approach towards identifying risks or resolving supply challenges before they escalate.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to maintaining accurate records; experience investigating data integrity issues using third-party systems is highly valued.
- Experience coordinating inter-branch stock movements and processing related transactions efficiently within complex supply chains.
- Familiarity with batch sizing principles, minimum order quantity management and expediting processes is advantageous but not essential.
