Cloud Security Engineer | Microsoft Stack | Sydney
Senior security engineering role at a growing Australian organisation in the middle of a significant cloud transformation. You'll take responsibility for the Microsoft security platform end-to-end, handling complex investigations, designing controls and automations, and driving the technical security uplift program. The position carries high autonomy and direct influence over how the cloud security capability matures across Defender, Sentinel, Intune, Purview, and Entra.
About the role
This is a senior security engineering position at a growing Australian organisation modernising its technology platform onto Azure. You'll be responsible for delivering technical security outcomes across the Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, working through complex security issues end-to-end and rolling out long-term improvements that strengthen detection, response, and overall security posture. The team operates with autonomy and a genuine appetite for continuous improvement, so you'll have real scope to influence how the security platform is built and how it scales.
Day to day
- Taking ownership of the Microsoft security stack across Defender, Sentinel, Intune, Purview, and Defender for Cloud
- Building security controls and automations that reduce manual effort and improve consistency
- Strengthening identity controls, network security posture, logging, monitoring, and configuration baselines
- Contributing to active workstreams including the migration to Defender for Cloud, a PAM rollout, application control improvements, and identity governance maturity
What you'll bring
- Strong hands-on background across Microsoft 365 and Azure security tooling (Defender, Sentinel, Intune, Purview, Defender for Cloud)
- Comfort securing cloud and enterprise environments through identity, network, logging, and configuration controls
- Working knowledge of cyber security frameworks, risk management practices, and automation of security workflows
Nice to have
- Privileged Access Management and identity governance experience
- Azure Logic Apps or Microsoft Power Platform used in a security context
- Application allowlisting and execution policy work
Qualifications
- Microsoft security certification (e.g. SC-200, SC-100, AZ-500) is expected
- Tertiary qualification in cyber security, IT, computer science, or equivalent practical background
