Lead Platform Engineer

What you’ll be doing:

This role is a blend of technical leadership, team development and platform ownership.

• Lead and mentor a team of 8 engineers across Sydney and Brisbane
  
• Oversee a large-scale environment (~2,500+ servers) across data centres and field locations
  
• Stay hands-on across:
  
  
  • Windows Server environments
    
  • Virtualisation (primarily Hyper-V)
    
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, with growing adoption)
    
• Own the platform lifecycle:
  
  
  • Upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation
    
  • Decommissioning legacy systems
    
  • Driving toward a secure, evergreen environment
    
• Act as the go-to escalation point for complex Level 3 issues
  
• Work closely with application teams to support business-critical systems
  
• Introduce and embed Agile ways of working (Jira, stand-ups, planning, retros)
  
• Contribute to cloud strategy and architectural decisions
  
• Collaborate with DBAs on SQL Server environments
  
• Join an on-call rotation (with allowance) and create the on-call roster for engineers in your team
  

What you’ll bring

• Strong experience managing large enterprise environments (1,000+ servers)
• Deep knowledge of Windows Server
  
• Solid experience with virtualisation (Hyper-V)
  
• Strong knowledge of Cloud (AWS or Azure) and an interest in driving adoption
  
• Proven experience managing platform lifecycle and operational maturity
  
• A genuine interest in mentoring and developing engineers
  
• Experience working in or introducing Agile environments
  
• Familiarity with tools like Jira, ServiceNow
  
• Nice to have:
  
  
  • Identity & access tools (e.g. CyberArk, Delinea)
    
  • SQL Server environment exposure
