Release Manager - DevOps & Platforms

Save job

A leading Australian bank is seeking an experienced IT Release Manager to support and mature enterprise release management practices across highly critical technology platforms. This role sits within a technology function responsible for systems that underpin large-scale, high-value financial transactions and require exceptional standards of stability, governance, and risk control.

The Role

As the IT Release Manager, you will take end-to-end ownership of the release lifecycle across both non-production and production environments. You’ll be responsible for maintaining a forward-looking release roadmap, resolving conflicts, managing interdependencies, and ensuring releases meet quality and risk expectations.

You will also provide leadership and guidance to a small release coordination capability and work closely with enterprise-level technology governance teams to embed consistent, scalable release practices.

This role suits someone who is confident operating in highly regulated environments, can influence senior stakeholders, and has experience managing releases for mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and govern the release management process across infrastructure and application changes
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate an integrated release schedule aligned to business priorities and technical dependencies
  • Coordinate and manage deployments across multiple environments, ensuring readiness and operational stability
  • Identify, assess, and manage release risks, issues, and cross-team dependencies
  • Lead release readiness reviews and ensure compliance with internal controls and standards
  • Act as a key point of contact for release-related communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Represent release management in governance and change forums, negotiating timelines and deployment windows
  • Partner with delivery, testing, and operations teams to continuously uplift release quality
  • Coach and support release coordinators and stakeholders on processes, tools, and best practices

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading or operating a Release Management function within large, complex organisations
  • Strong understanding of release governance for critical, high-availibility systems
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and navigate complex stakeholder environments
  • Experience working across distributed teams and multi-environment delivery landscapes
  • Sound knowledge of industry best practices in Release, Change, and Deployment Management
  • Exposure to DevOps-aligned delivery models and tooling (e.g. Jira, ServiceNow or similar)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in IT or a related discipline
  • ITIL Foundation (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Release Management or closely related disciplines

Why Apply?

  • Work on technology platforms of national and business-critical importance
  • Join a highly professional, mature environment with strong delivery and governance standards
  • 12 month fixed-term contract offering meaningful impact and senior-level exposure
  • Hybrid working model based in Sydney
