Senior Network Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer with a strong focus on network security to join its Sydney-based technology team. This role sits within a large-scale, enterprise environment and plays a key role in ensuring the resilience, performance, and security of critical banking platforms. This is a hands-on senior role combining operational excellence with project-based delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide complex troubleshooting across enterprise network and security platforms
  
• Diagnose and resolve complex incidents relating to firewalls, load balancers, routing, switching, and connectivity
  
• Design, implement, and enhance secure network solutions as part of ongoing projects and initiatives
  
• Manage and support enterprise firewall environments, including policy management, rule optimisation, and threat mitigation
  
• Support and maintain load balancer platforms to ensure availability, performance, and security of critical services
  
• Balance BAU operational responsibilities with project-based work, including upgrades, migrations, and security uplift programs
  
• Contribute to network standards, documentation, and continuous improvement
  
• Support audit, risk, and regulatory requirements within a banking environment
  
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
  

Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience in a Senior Network Engineer role within large, enterprise environments
  
• Strong hands-on expertise in network security, particularly:
  
  
  • Enterprise firewalls (e.g. Palo Alto, Juniper, Fortinet, CheckPoint)
    
  • Load balancers (e.g. F5, Citrix, A10 or equivalent)
    
• Proven troubleshooting capability across complex network and security issues
  
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and network design
  
• Experience working across both operational (BAU) and project-based network work
  
• Exposure to highly regulated environments (banking, financial services, or similar) highly regarded
  
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders
