Java Engineer - AI x Quality Engineering

A major technology‑driven organisation is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to join a specialised AI engineering team. You’ll build intelligent backend agents that analyse code quality, generate tests, and enhance developer productivity. We are supporting a technology‑focused organisation investing heavily in AI‑enabled engineering capabilities. A specialised team is expanding its work on intelligent backend agents designed to support developers and uplift software quality across the organisation.

This high‑performing team of engineers owns the AI‑driven quality engineering strategy. They are now seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer who can deliver robust backend systems while also representing the team’s work to senior engineering leadership.

You will design and build backend components for AI‑powered agents that integrate directly into development pipelines. These agents analyse code quality, provide real‑time feedback, and automatically generate and execute unit tests. Your work will directly influence developer productivity and software reliability.

You’ll collaborate closely with AI specialists, platform engineers, and senior technical leaders to deliver production‑ready backend solutions that support the organisation’s broader engineering transformation.

Responsibilities:

• Develop backend systems using Java, with supporting work in Python for AI‑related components
• Build and enhance backend logic for code‑quality agents integrated into GitHub‑based CI/CD pipelines
• Implement automated test generation and execution capabilities
• Work closely with AI engineers to refine agent behaviour and decision‑making
• Present technical outcomes and roadmap updates to senior engineering stakeholders
• Contribute to broader AI engineering and developer‑experience initiatives
• Ensure backend solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with engineering best practices

Skills & Experience:

• Strong commercial experience in Java backend development
• Proficiency in Python, ideally within AI, ML, or agent‑based systems
• Experience developing or integrating AI agents, autonomous systems, or similar backend technologies
• Experience building backend tools or platforms for developer productivity or code quality
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions
• Solid testing background, including:
• JUnit (highly preferred)
• Playwright, REST Assured, or Karate (advantageous)
