Fuelled by a passion for people and continuous development, learn about Jess Hobden's remarkable career journey at Robert Walters.

Jessica (Jess) Hobden is the Manager of the Procurement team at Robert Sydney and the ED&I representative for NSW. She was working in retail management and studying Human Resources Management before making an unexpected pivot to recruitment. Since then, her story has been nothing short of remarkable. Jess recounts her career story below.
 

Before I joined Robert Walters, I was working full time managing a team in retail, which I really enjoyed but I knew I wanted to do more and grow professionally with my strong people skills. During the beginning of the pandemic, I decided to upskill and did my postgraduate in Human Resource Management. 

Managing in retail gave me exposure to various elements of HR – including recruiting for my team, learning and development and people management – these were my favourite parts of the job, along with creating a tailored experience for our customers and clients. I have to say, I didn’t think recruitment would be my next career move, but I was lucky enough to secure an interview with Robert Walters and once I got to meet the team, learn about the company’s values and ways of working, I was able to draw parallels with my then transferable skills and could see ways in which I could continue to develop professionally in the areas I was passionate about. 

I have been lucky with my career progression, but also know I have worked hard to be where I am today. I started as a consultant, and within 9 months of strong performance was promoted to Senior Consultant, a year later to Managing Consultant, and I am now managing the Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics team.

Robert Walters provide the most exceptional training at all levels, setting you up for success – allowing you to be the creator of your own destiny within the business – the sky is the limit!

I am also our ED&I representative for NSW and absolutely love that I am able to bring awareness to (and celebrate) a variety of different areas that matter to our people, clients and candidates. 

Mason & Jess are both located in Sydney, supporting clients and candidates with Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics roles.

Colleagues and Managers have been a huge contributor to my growth and progress at Robert Walters. Training is provided at all stages of your career and the training is carried out with peers and managers alike – allowing it to be a collaboration of ideas to ensure we provide a best-in-class service that works in a dynamic and everchanging market. No question is a silly question, it is very evident from the managers in the business that they want you to succeed, and they support you in every way to ensure that outcome is reached.

The family-like culture and celebration of success at Robert Walters creates a safe space for you to be yourself, be vulnerable and simultaneously work hard - my colleagues and managers have allowed me to flourish as a result of this culture and the values that lay the foundation for the business. 

Some of my favourite parts about working for Robert Walters is definitely the culture, the unwavering support, the continuous opportunity for development, the teamwork, the leadership team, and the groups value for all things ED&I.

In my three years working at Robert Walters, I have developed a level of confidence communicating and working a dynamic range of individuals and businesses, I have developed incredible skills that will and are already setting me up for future success and the success of my team. I have also made life-long friendships with colleagues across all different areas of the business.
