Financial Accountant

An organisation in South West Sydney is seeking a Financial Accountant to join their Finance team. This is a great opportunity for a commercially minded accountant to take ownership of core financial accounting activities while working closely with a supportive and knowledgeable team. You’ll play an important role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and supporting the wider business with quality financial information.

What you'll do:

  • Perform month-end processing including journal entries, trial balance preparation, and detailed expense analysis to ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain the general ledger with precision and carry out monthly balance sheet reconciliations to uphold financial accuracy.
  • Process vendor invoices efficiently while managing the full accounts payable function for New Zealand entities.
  • Maintain and reconcile the company’s fixed asset register, ensuring all assets are accurately tracked and reported.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with insurance renewals and claims management, supporting risk mitigation efforts across the business.
  • Prepare and lodge BAS/GST, FBT returns, as well as other statutory compliance requirements in accordance with relevant regulations.
  • Prepare and process monthly payroll, payroll tax, PAYG withholding obligations, year-end payroll reconciliations, and statutory reporting with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial systems including SAP, ensuring data accuracy and system reliability at all times.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports to provide clear insights into business performance.
  • Support annual audits by ensuring compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards throughout all processes.
  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances to facilitate seamless cross-entity operations within the group.
  • Identify and implement process improvements aimed at enhancing financial controls, efficiency, and reporting accuracy across the finance function.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the finance team in achieving its objectives.

What you bring:

  • 3-5 years’ relevant accounting experience in a large complex commercial environment
  • Strong understanding of financial and management accounting principles
  • Experience across month-end, reconciliations, reporting and statutory compliance
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team
  • CA or CPA qualification.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience with SAP ERP system
  • Experience with Employment Hero, LOGA or similar HR systems is advantageous
