Payroll Officer

Payroll Officer
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join a collaborative and high-performing team. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll while ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation, company policies, awards, and enterprise agreements. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining payroll accuracy, delivering exceptional employee support, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end payroll across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll cycles.
- Maintain employee payroll records and ensure data accuracy.
- Process new starters, terminations, salary changes, allowances, deductions, and leave requests.
- Interpret awards, enterprise agreements, and payroll legislation.
- Ensure compliance with PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, and statutory obligations.
- Manage payroll queries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform payroll reconciliations and support month-end reporting activities.
- Prepare payroll journals and assist with audit requirements.
- Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in an end-to-end payroll position.
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience working within medium to large payroll environments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, SAP, SuccessFactors, Chris21, Micropay, Employment Hero, or similar.
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
