Established in 1921, LLL prides itself on providing investment products that are simple to operate, with no fees or charges. LLL provides loans and builds partnerships that support and transform the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) and associated entities such as schools, churches, congregations and aged care facilities.

Our mission is to provide business and financial support to the LCA, while providing excellent service to all customers and safeguarding the interests of investors.

What LLL offer:

  • Purposeful and connected culture
  • Diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Professional development in a growth environment
  • Competitive salary and benefits, including free on-site parking

About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Risk Manager, the Risk Officer will play a critical role in supporting the implementation, management, and ongoing effectiveness of LLL’s risk management and compliance frameworks. This position involves conducting Line 2 assurance reviews, control testing, compliance monitoring, and legislative change management while maintaining independence and providing objective challenge where required.

Central to this role is ensuring efficient and effective risk management systems, processes, and reporting. This includes oversight of operational controls, accurate risk data management, trend analysis, high-quality documentation, and reporting.

Success in this role will be measured by achieving performance goals aligned with the organisation’s vision, strategic objectives, legislative obligations, Board-approved risk appetite, and the Risk Management Team’s assurance priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct Line 2 assurance reviews of operational practices to assess adherence with policies, statutory obligations, and Board approved risk appetite.
  • Perform control testing to assess design and operating effectiveness, and identify gaps or weaknesses.
  • Prepare clear reports detailing assurance findings and control testing outcomes.
  • Represent the Risk Management Team on projects by providing risk and compliance input, objective advice and challenge, and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Line 1 teams on compliance obligations and the integration of risk management principles into operations.
  • Foster a positive risk culture through practical guidance and reinforcing Line 1 accountability for risk and control ownership.

About You:

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders through clear communication and mutual respect.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of risk management and compliance within Financial Services, including operational risk assessment, conduct risk evaluation, legislative change management processes, and assurance practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting complex regulatory requirements and translating them into actionable insights for business operations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail across records management, data accuracy, documentation quality, trend analysis, and reporting outputs.
  • Proven capability in preparing high-quality reports that articulate key risk insights alongside practical solutions for decision-makers.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management, Business or IT-related fields (preferred), or equivalent practical experience gained through roles in risk management, compliance monitoring, audit functions or financial services operations.

Benefits for working with LLL:

  • 4 x wellbeing days per year
  • 2 x charity volunteering days annually
  • Highly collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful, community-focused initiatives
  • Hybrid working environment
