GIS Data Analyst

Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and deliver comprehensive spatial business intelligence solutions including detailed reports and both electronic and hardcopy maps that underpin critical business processes and inform strategic decision-making.
- Provide expert analysis and integration of spatial and related aspatial data to create robust spatial datasets required for effective delivery of business intelligence solutions.
- Work collaboratively with business analysts and a wide range of internal customers to accurately define requirements for spatial business intelligence initiatives.
- Support and maintain the spatial business intelligence framework as well as associated solutions to ensure their effective use and continuity of service throughout the organisation.
- Offer specialist advice regarding the interpretation and application of spatial datasets to facilitate informed business decisions at all levels.
- Assist in determining policies for information access rights, issuing these rights, and implementing robust access controls in line with organisational standards.
- Contribute to coordinated change management activities by supporting the direction, organisation, and implementation of project portfolios that achieve significant outcomes for the organisation.
- Participate actively in the Data Stewardship Working Group to promote best practices in data management policy, guidelines, and the adoption of a data quality approach across the council.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, ethical standards, privacy principles, corporate policies, customer service charters, and workplace health and safety guidelines.
The ideal candidate
- Demonstrated high level of achievement using GIS software for analysing spatial information and developing advanced spatial business intelligence solutions within a local government or similar context.
- Comprehensive understanding of key spatial datasets relevant to local government operations—including property, infrastructure assets, environmental factors, land use planning, and aerial imagery—and how these datasets support strategic objectives.
- Proven ability to support and maintain complex spatial business intelligence technologies including spatial databases, delivery mechanisms for various client types (thick/thin/mobile), and sophisticated data integration tools.
- Advanced proficiency in cartographic design and visual communication using a variety of software platforms such as GIS applications, Computer Aided Design tools, desktop publishing suites, graphics programs, and image manipulation software.
- Highly developed analytical skills demonstrated through successful resolution of intricate spatial data management challenges including issues related to data quality and topology.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with an emphasis on clear written and verbal communication; ability to work collaboratively with peers as well as stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to upholding statutory obligations, ethical standards, privacy principles, corporate policies, customer service charters, and workplace health & safety protocols.
- Ability to participate constructively in change management initiatives by supporting project coordination efforts that deliver measurable benefits for the organisation.
- Mandatory: Ability to pass a criminal history check prior to appointment.
- Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in Spatial Sciences or a related discipline.
