HR Advisor

Save job

Join a leading insurance organisation as an HR Advisor and step into a high-volume role where people are at the centre of everything you do. Based in Sydney CBD, you’ll support employees across Australia and New Zealand as part of a collaborative, established People team. With comprehensive training, genuine team support and plenty of variety, this 5-month contract is ideal for an HR professional who thrives on pace, connection and making an impact.

About the Opportunity

Join a leading insurance organisation as an HR Advisor and become part of a central People function supporting employees across Australia and New Zealand.

This is a genuinely people-facing, high-volume HR role where you’ll be the first point of contact for day-to-day employee HR matters. Sitting within a team of seven HR Advisors, you’ll work closely with colleagues, HR Business Partners, leaders and specialist HR teams to ensure employees receive timely, practical and consistent support.

This is not a traditional HR partnering role — it’s an opportunity to build strong advisory experience in a fast-paced environment where no two days are quite the same.

With hundreds of cases moving through the function each week, you’ll need to enjoy pace, problem-solving and plenty of interaction with people.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an HR Advisor, you’ll provide practical advice and support across a broad range of employee matters, including:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for employee HR queries across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Managing employee queries through ServiceNow, including phone, email and chat.
  • Responding to questions relating to pay, tax, leave and general HR matters.
  • Supporting leaders with performance-related queries and providing practical guidance.
  • Working alongside HR Business Partners, providing a sense-check and support on matters involving senior leaders.
  • Escalating complex Employee Relations matters to the dedicated ER team where appropriate.
  • Managing a high volume of cases while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness and a strong employee experience.
  • Working collaboratively with the broader People team to ensure consistent and effective HR advice.
  • Keeping clear and accurate case records across the relevant HR systems.

The team manages approximately 400–500 cases per week, with volumes increasing during periods of major company communications or Enterprise Agreement changes. Depending on workload, you can expect approximately 8–25 calls per day.

How You’ll Fit Into the Central HR Function

You’ll sit within a centralised People Services function, acting as a key connection point between employees, leaders and the broader HR team.

The role is highly collaborative. You’ll work alongside six other HR Advisors across Australia and New Zealand, while also partnering with HR Business Partners and specialist teams such as Employee Relations.

You’ll have the opportunity to build your confidence as an HR Advisor, learn from experienced colleagues and become a trusted first point of contact for employees.

The team is supportive and well connected, with a strong focus on sharing knowledge, helping each other out and delivering a consistent employee experience.

You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. A comprehensive two-week training program, buddying and ongoing team support are provided, with the expectation that you’ll become increasingly self-sufficient while knowing when to ask for guidance.

Experience We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an HR professional who has a solid foundation in HR advisory or generalist HR and is comfortable working in a high-volume environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in an HR Advisor, HR Coordinator or generalist HR role.
  • Experience managing employee queries or providing HR advice.
  • Exposure to a busy, customer-focused or shared-services environment.
  • Confidence handling a high volume of queries and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence speaking with employees over the phone.
  • Experience supporting leaders with day-to-day people matters.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage cases through to resolution.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, SAP, SuccessFactors or Kronos would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Working Holiday Visa candidates can be considered, particularly those who are immediately available.
