Systems Safety Lead

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity to join a leading Australian engineering and defence business delivering complex, high-profile maritime programs. This role will see you take ownership of System Safety across critical projects, influencing engineering decisions, leading stakeholder engagement and ensuring safe, compliant delivery outcomes.
This position suits an experienced Systems Safety professional looking to step into a visible leadership role with strong long-term career progression and the opportunity to work on technically challenging programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and execution of System Safety methodologies across projects
- Drive consistency, governance and continuous improvement of safety processes and outcomes
- Act as the key point of contact for customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders on safety matters
- Lead and facilitate System Safety forums, workshops and technical reviews
- Develop and manage critical project deliverables including Safety Program Plans, Hazard Logs, Hazard Analysis and Safety Cases
- Identify, manage and report engineering and project risks
- Support emerging projects and contribute to wider business capability development
- Ensure contractual and regulatory safety requirements are achieved throughout delivery
About You
You are a technically strong Systems Safety professional who enjoys working across complex engineering environments and influencing outcomes through collaboration and expertise.
To be successful you will ideally have:
- Degree qualification in Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or the ability to obtain it
- Demonstrated experience in Defence Systems Safety programs or similar high-integrity environments
- Strong working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E or equivalent System Safety frameworks
- Experience producing and managing Safety Cases, Hazard Logs and Hazard Analysis activities
- Exposure to Defence acquisition, sustainment or complex project environments
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to simplify complex technical challenges and drive practical outcomes
