When Anderson Pereira watched the colours of Vivid Sydney light festival sparkle over Sydney Harbour, he reflected on his own dazzling career change.
Robert Walters was genuinely interested in what I had to offer,” explains Anderson. “They listened to what I wanted, and then helped me each step of the way.
Just one year earlier, Brazilian-born Anderson had relocated from Brisbane to take up the role as a Software Engineer for retailer, Strand, in Sydney – a city he’d never even visited before. It was a change that was only possible thanks to the ongoing support of Paolo Paparo and Ben Leighton from the Robert Walters technology team.
“Robert Walters was genuinely interested in what I had to offer,” explains Anderson. “They listened to what I wanted, and then helped me each step of the way."
“From preparing me for the initial interview, to inviting me to a Robert Walters networking event a year after I relocated to Sydney, Paolo and Ben connected with me on a really personal level. The Vivid lights at their networking event was the cherry on top!”
Prior to his move, Anderson had been re-evaluating his professional life. He’d been looking for a change, feeling “too comfortable” in his existing role, and he needed a new challenge. To this end, he’d been working with a career coach about his next move.
“I work in the IT industry; and in that industry, if you don’t change then it’s death because technology is constantly changing.”
Fast forward to today, and Anderson’s now using the latest technology at his new employer, and he’s receiving the training and development he was seeking.
“It was such a good move,” says Anderson of the shift to Sydney. “It’s not always easy to start fresh, but I think it’s important to constantly learn and evolve.”
Leaving Brisbane for a new, unknown city was made easier thanks to the safety net that Robert Walters provided. On top of this, his line manager is also Brazilian, helping him feel at home.
“My new role is so much more than just a job – it’s a chance to fulfil my dreams,” says Anderson, his face lighting up like Sydney’s famous Vivid Festival.
