Business Analyst - HRIS
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to lead the discovery phase of a HRIS transformation project for a national organisation operating across multiple industrial sectors. With a workforce comprising both frontline operational employees and corporate teams, this role will be instrumental in understanding current business processes and defining future-state requirements for HR, Payroll, and Workforce Management systems.
The organisation operates across complex operational environments with site-based, field-based, and office-based employees, requiring robust workforce planning, time and attendance, payroll, compliance, and people management processes. This role will work closely with stakeholders across HR, Payroll, Operations, Finance, and IT to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and documented.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the discovery and requirements gathering phase of a HRIS transformation project.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder interviews across operational and corporate business units.
- Document current-state HR, Payroll, Time & Attendance, Rostering, and Workforce Management processes.

- Analyse business processes and identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
- Gather and document functional and non-functional requirements.
- Conduct gap analysis between current and future-state processes.
- Identify key business risks, dependencies, integration requirements, and process impacts.
- Support the development of future-state operating models and transformation recommendations.
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Operations, Finance, and IT teams to ensure alignment of requirements.
- Prepare project artefacts including BRDs, process maps, stakeholder analyses, and business cases as required.
- Assist with vendor assessments, solution evaluations, and implementation planning activities.
About You
You are a hands-on Business Analyst who excels in the early stages of transformation projects. You have strong stakeholder engagement skills and are comfortable working with both frontline operational teams and corporate leaders. You can quickly understand complex business processes and translate business needs into actionable requirements.
Essential Experience
- 5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst delivering business transformation and technology projects.
- Proven experience working on HRIS, Payroll, Workforce Management (WFM), Human Capital Management (HCM), or Time & Attendance projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading discovery workshops and requirements gathering activities from project initiation.
- Strong business process mapping and current-state/future-state analysis capabilities.
- Experience documenting business, functional, and system requirements.
- Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across operational, site-based, field-based, and corporate environments.
- Experience conducting gap analysis, impact assessments, and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication, facilitation, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Regarded
- Previous experience working within mining, construction, engineering, logistics, transport, heavy equipment, infrastructure, industrial services, or asset-intensive organisations.
- Experience supporting large, geographically dispersed workforces with a mix of blue-collar, field-based, and corporate employees.
- Understanding of workforce compliance, enterprise agreements, rostering, fatigue management, and award interpretation.
- Background in HR, Payroll, Workforce Planning, or People & Culture functions.
- Exposure to HRIS platforms such as Workday, SuccessFactors, Dayforce, UKG, Chris21, TechnologyOne, Employment Hero, or similar.
- Experience supporting HRIS selection, implementation, or transformation programs.
- Relevant BA certification or tertiary qualifications in Business, HR, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
