Data Scientist - Value Engineering

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Scientist to join a globally recognised value engineering group based in Brisbane. This role offers you the chance to be part of a collaborative and supportive team dedicated to identifying and delivering performance improvement projects across a diverse portfolio of assets.

What you'll do:

• Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the value chain to identify business and performance improvement opportunities that deliver measurable results.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to define relevant business problems and ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
• Investigate complex operational challenges using structured problem-solving methodologies and advanced analytical techniques.
• Develop robust code and conduct detailed analyses utilising a variety of technologies, including Python, to extract actionable insights from both structured and unstructured data sources.
• Design, build, and implement descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive models that inform strategic decision-making processes.
• Present ideas, findings, and recommendations confidently to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, ensuring clarity and impact.
• Enable performance improvement by translating data-driven insights into practical solutions that enhance asset capability in the short, medium, and long term.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical methods by exploring new approaches and proposing innovative ideas that benefit the business.
• Support the tracking and evaluation of implemented recommendations to measure effectiveness and inform future initiatives.
• Maintain high standards of documentation and knowledge sharing within the team to foster collaboration and collective learning.

What you bring:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science or engineering is essential for success in this position.
• Demonstrated experience using data-driven approaches to solve complex business problems within large organisations or industrial settings is highly valued.
• Proficiency in Python programming is required for building descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive models as well as performing feature engineering tasks.
• Experience conducting structured and unstructured data mining activities using modern analytical tools is important for extracting valuable insights from diverse datasets.
• A strong foundation in machine learning algorithms and statistical modelling techniques enables you to develop robust solutions tailored to specific business needs.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills are necessary for conveying technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A methodical approach to project delivery ensures that goals are met efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality throughout each phase.
• The ability to explore new ideas proactively demonstrates your commitment to continuous improvement within the team environment.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies enhances your capacity for collaborative project management in fast-evolving contexts (highly regarded).
• Practical experience with big data technologies or exposure to mining/resources/heavy industry environments provides additional context for addressing sector-specific challenges (highly regarded).
