Save job

This mid-level position offers you the chance to work with SQL and Oracle databases that underpin essential applications and services, ensuring their reliability and performance. You will thrive in a collaborative operations environment where flexibility, technical expertise and your problem-solving abilities are valued and nurtured. The role provides workplace flexibility, allowing you to work from home, on-site or a blend of both, depending on your personal commitments. If you hold an active NV1 clearance and are ready to participate in a 24/7 on-call roster, this opportunity promises both professional growth and the satisfaction of supporting vital government systems.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and maintain SQL and Oracle database environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability for mission-critical applications.
  • Perform regular database patching, upgrades and ongoing optimisation activities to keep systems secure and efficient.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues such as slow response times, capacity constraints and infrastructure impacts affecting database availability.
  • Support incident response efforts by participating in fault diagnosis and service restoration activities during operational disruptions.
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure teams to address cross-platform issues that may affect database functionality or integration.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call roster approximately one week every ten weeks to provide dependable support for urgent incidents.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting steps and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Monitor database health using industry-standard tools and proactively identify potential risks or areas for improvement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing database security, scalability and resilience.
  • Engage with stakeholders across departments to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet organisational objectives.

What you bring:

  • Candidates must hold an active current clearance (Minimum NV1) as an essential requirement for consideration.
  • Proven experience working as a Database Administrator with hands-on responsibility for SQL and Oracle environments.
  • Strong technical expertise across both SQL and Oracle databases demonstrated through successful maintenance and optimisation projects.
  • Experience performing database patching, upgrades, troubleshooting complex issues, and restoring services during incidents.
  • Comfortable working in operational environments where incident response is required as part of daily duties.
  • Highly competent hands-on technical capability with depth of skill prioritised over years of experience.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure teams to resolve cross-platform challenges impacting database operations.
  • Excellent documentation skills for recording procedures, troubleshooting steps, and best practices within the team.
  • Proactive approach to monitoring database health using industry-standard tools to identify risks before they escalate.
  • Commitment to continuous learning through participation in training opportunities relevant to evolving technologies.
