What you'll do:
- Manage and maintain SQL and Oracle database environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability for mission-critical applications.
- Perform regular database patching, upgrades and ongoing optimisation activities to keep systems secure and efficient.
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues such as slow response times, capacity constraints and infrastructure impacts affecting database availability.
- Support incident response efforts by participating in fault diagnosis and service restoration activities during operational disruptions.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure teams to address cross-platform issues that may affect database functionality or integration.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call roster approximately one week every ten weeks to provide dependable support for urgent incidents.
- Document procedures, troubleshooting steps and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing within the team.
- Monitor database health using industry-standard tools and proactively identify potential risks or areas for improvement.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing database security, scalability and resilience.
- Engage with stakeholders across departments to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet organisational objectives.
What you bring:
- Candidates must hold an active current clearance (Minimum NV1) as an essential requirement for consideration.
- Proven experience working as a Database Administrator with hands-on responsibility for SQL and Oracle environments.
- Strong technical expertise across both SQL and Oracle databases demonstrated through successful maintenance and optimisation projects.
- Experience performing database patching, upgrades, troubleshooting complex issues, and restoring services during incidents.
- Comfortable working in operational environments where incident response is required as part of daily duties.
- Highly competent hands-on technical capability with depth of skill prioritised over years of experience.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure teams to resolve cross-platform challenges impacting database operations.
- Excellent documentation skills for recording procedures, troubleshooting steps, and best practices within the team.
- Proactive approach to monitoring database health using industry-standard tools to identify risks before they escalate.
