Senior Platform/Cloud Engineer - Azure/M365 - MSP
Are you a Level 3 Engineer who enjoys solving the problems that others can’t? This is an opportunity to join a growing cloud consulting and managed services provider where you’ll be more than just another escalation point. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of complex technical issues, work across a broad range of Microsoft and cloud technologies, improve the way services are delivered, and help develop the engineers around you. You’ll work across a diverse client base, from SMBs through to government organisations, meaning no two days will look exactly the same. One day you could be deep-diving into an Azure networking issue; the next, working through an identity or Intune problem, improving an automation process, or helping a Level 2 engineer work through a complex escalation. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape and mature the managed services function, rather than simply operating within an established environment.
Why this role?
- Make an impact: Own complex escalations and work on problems that genuinely make a difference to customers.
- Work across the stack: Get exposure across Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, security, identity, endpoint management and automation.
- Help shape the environment: Improve processes, tooling, documentation and automation rather than simply following existing processes.
- Mentor and develop others: Share your knowledge with Level 1 and Level 2 engineers and help raise the technical capability of the wider team.
- Keep learning: The organisation actively invests in certifications, training, knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Work with a varied client base: Support interesting environments across SMB, enterprise and government clients.
- Join a collaborative team: Work alongside experienced engineers, consultants and technical leaders who value knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
- Enjoy a central Sydney office: With practical perks including complimentary coffee, snacks and fresh fruit.
What you'll be doing
As a Level 3 Platform Engineer, you’ll be one of the senior technical voices within the managed services team.
You’ll take ownership of complex P1/P2 incidents and escalations, getting to the root of problems rather than simply applying short-term fixes. You’ll work closely with customers and internal teams to identify permanent solutions, improve service reliability and ensure issues don’t keep coming back.
You’ll also have plenty of opportunity to improve the way the team operates. This could mean automating a repetitive process, improving documentation, building a runbook, reviewing ticket quality, developing an SOP or helping introduce a better way of monitoring and managing the environment.
You’ll also play an important role in developing the engineers around you — sharing your knowledge, running technical sessions and helping Level 1 and Level 2 engineers become more confident in troubleshooting complex issues.
You'll be responsible for:
- Acting as the senior escalation point for complex issues across Azure, Microsoft 365, identity, security, endpoint and networking.
- Leading troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for P1 and P2 incidents.
- Driving permanent fixes rather than relying on temporary workarounds.
- Supporting major incident management and providing technical leadership during critical incidents.
- Working within agreed SLAs while identifying opportunities to improve service quality.
- Collaborating with consulting and engineering teams on complex escalations and project transitions.
- Improving managed services tooling, monitoring, reporting, documentation and knowledge management.
- Identifying opportunities for automation and scripting to improve efficiency.
- Monitoring service health, SLA performance, security posture and operational maturity.
- Working with the Managed Services Lead to continuously improve service delivery.
- Mentoring junior engineers and turning recurring issues into useful SOPs, runbooks, scripts and training material.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is genuinely comfortable operating at Level 3 within an MSP or complex enterprise environment.
You don't need to be an expert in every technology listed below. What's important is that you're a strong technical generalist who can troubleshoot across different environments, take ownership of difficult problems and confidently learn new technologies when required.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- 5+ years' experience in a senior engineering position within an MSP or enterprise environment.
- Strong experience across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
- Solid Azure networking, infrastructure and security knowledge.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID / Active Directory, identity and Conditional Access.
- Hands-on experience with Intune and endpoint management.
- Exposure to networking technologies, ideally including Cisco Meraki, switching, wireless, SD-WAN and VPNs.
- Experience with security and modern workplace technologies.
- Good PowerShell and scripting capability, with an interest in automation.
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD, repositories or infrastructure automation.
- Understanding of ITIL, incident, problem, change and major incident management.
- The ability and willingness to mentor more junior engineers.
- A genuine interest in improving processes and finding smarter ways of doing things.
More importantly, we're looking for someone who:
- Takes ownership and doesn't wait to be told what to do.
- Enjoys getting stuck into complex technical problems.
- Thinks about the root cause, not just the immediate fix.
- Can communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Enjoys helping other engineers develop.
- Is curious and genuinely interested in learning.
- Has a strong customer-first mindset.
- Wants to contribute ideas and influence how a managed services environment operates.
Why join?
This is a great opportunity for someone who has reached Level 3 and wants to take the next step beyond traditional support and escalation work.
You'll have the technical variety of an MSP, the opportunity to work with modern Microsoft technologies, and the autonomy to influence how services are delivered.
Rather than being another engineer working within a rigid structure, you'll have a genuine opportunity to build, improve and influence the managed services function while working alongside a collaborative team that values technical excellence, knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
15% performance-based bonus — be rewarded for the impact you make.
Technical leadership — take ownership of complex escalations while providing technical guidance and mentoring to Level 1 and Level 2 engineers.
Microsoft certifications & training — continued investment in your technical development, with access to Microsoft certifications, training and learning opportunities.
Strong boutique culture — join a close-knit, collaborative team where you’ll have genuine visibility, influence and the opportunity to make a difference as the business grows.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are encouraged to apply.
