Software Operations & Automation Associate

Save job

A global software group is seeking a Software Operations and Automation Associate for a 6-12 month contract based in Balcatta. This early career opportunity is perfect for someone who is organised, proactive, and digitally minded, eager to support a team of approximately 100 professionals across resource coordination, financial administration, communications, meetings, events, and general software operations.

The role offers exposure to a thriving digital product business and the chance to build experience across technology, product, and business operations. You will play a pivotal part in identifying repetitive work and leveraging AI, automation, and low-code tools to simplify or eliminate it. If you are looking to enter the software industry and want to develop your skills in an inclusive environment with supportive leadership and flexible working opportunities, this is the ideal position for you.

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting a large software team with resource management, financial processes, communications, and operational workflows.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, finance, people, and business stakeholders while building automations using Microsoft 365, CoPilot, AI assistants, scripting tools, APIs, and integration platforms.
  • Enjoy broad exposure to digital product operations with pathways into product management, technology delivery, or other technical and generalist roles depending on your strengths and interests.

What you'll do:

As a Software Operations and Automation Associate in Balcatta on a 6-12 month contract basis, you will immerse yourself in the day-to-day workings of a global software group. Your responsibilities will span resource coordination for a large team; assisting with financial administration; facilitating meetings; managing events; maintaining operational records; identifying inefficiencies; building automations; connecting systems; creating user-friendly documentation; collaborating across departments; and following tasks through to completion. Success in this role requires you to be highly organised with strong attention to detail. You will need to be comfortable using digital tools for automation as well as communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues. By proactively supporting operational excellence across the group’s digital products division, and by proposing practical improvements, you will contribute meaningfully to the company’s growth while developing your own skills in technology operations.

  • Support workforce and resource management activities across the software group by coordinating schedules and ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
  • Assist with purchase orders, invoices, cost tracking, and other basic financial processes to help maintain accurate records and facilitate smooth operations.
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, events, and communications across teams and channels to foster collaboration and ensure information flows efficiently.
  • Maintain operational information including records, reports, and administrative workflows so that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Identify repetitive or inefficient processes within the organisation and propose practical improvements that enhance productivity.
  • Build lightweight automations using tools such as Microsoft 365, CoPilot, AI assistants, scripting languages like Python or PowerShell to streamline tasks.
  • Connect systems and information using APIs and integration tools where appropriate to improve data flow between platforms.
  • Create simple guides and documentation so that improved processes can be easily adopted by others throughout the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, product, finance, people, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment on operational initiatives.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks from initiation through completion while demonstrating reliability and commitment.

What you bring:

To excel as a Software Operations and Automation Associate in Balcatta you will bring proven organisational skills combined with attention to detail that ensures accuracy in every task. Your interpersonal abilities will allow you to communicate clearly across departments, whether discussing process improvements or coordinating events. You should feel comfortable researching solutions using AI tools or drafting guides for new workflows. An enthusiasm for digital products coupled with an understanding of business operations will help you navigate complex challenges. Experience handling sensitive information responsibly is essential. Ideally you have completed studies in technology-related fields or possess equivalent practical experience. Familiarity with automation platforms (such as Microsoft 365), scripting languages (Python/JavaScript/PowerShell), spreadsheets & structured data will be valuable assets. Above all your willingness to learn quickly, combined with curiosity about how software organisations operate will set you apart.

  • Demonstrate strong organisation skills with meticulous attention to detail when managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Show excellent communication abilities that enable you to connect effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues across diverse teams.
  • Display initiative by taking responsibility for unfamiliar problems while being curious about new solutions.
  • Exhibit confidence using AI tools for research, drafting documents, analysing data sets, or automating routine work processes.
  • Express genuine interest in software development concepts as well as digital products and business operations.
  • Work dependably within collaborative environments where sound judgement is required when handling financial or sensitive information.
  • Hold a relevant degree or equivalent experience in technology, business administration, information systems, commerce, engineering or related fields.
  • Possess useful technical experience such as familiarity with AI tooling or low-code automation platforms, even if not an expert, showing evidence of quick learning ability.
  • Have basic knowledge of Python, JavaScript or PowerShell scripting which enables you to build simple automations as needed.
  • Be comfortable working with spreadsheets & structured data while understanding foundational software development principles.
