What you'll do:
As an AI Software Engineer based in Perth, you will play a pivotal role in designing robust Python applications that underpin critical business operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing scalable cloud services on Azure or similar platforms, integrating complex data flows between operational systems and analytics layers, and ensuring every solution meets stringent requirements for correctness and auditability. You will collaborate with diverse teams across the organisation to deliver dependable software that supports human-in-the-loop decision-making processes. By contributing to CI/CD pipeline management, observability practices, and secure integration workflows—including ERP systems—you will help maintain high standards of reliability. Additionally, you may engage with advanced AI application engineering tasks such as prompt integration or document processing pipelines. Your ability to adapt to new technologies like infrastructure-as-code or BI enablement tools will further enhance the impact of your work. Success in this role requires not only technical excellence but also a commitment to teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within a supportive environment.
- Design, develop, and maintain Python-based software with a focus on type hints and comprehensive unit/integration testing to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
- Build and operate cloud services using Azure Functions or equivalent serverless/event-driven architectures, leveraging managed identity for secure operations.
- Integrate data from various sources including SQL databases and data warehouses such as Snowflake, constructing pipelines that bridge operational stores with analytics layers.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and manage git workflows to streamline development processes while ensuring observability through structured logging, tracing, and metrics.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a regulated enterprise context, prioritising correctness and auditability throughout all stages of software delivery.
- Contribute to the design and operation of human-in-the-loop systems where accuracy and traceability are essential for compliance.
- Support the integration of agent-first software development workflows when required, adapting to evolving project needs.
- Assist in engineering LLM/AI applications by integrating prompts, Azure OpenAI services, document/OCR pipelines, and related technologies as needed.
- Facilitate SAP or other enterprise ERP integrations using OData protocols and OAuth2 client credentials for secure connectivity.
- Participate in infrastructure-as-code initiatives, managing secrets with Key Vault and workload identities while enabling BI/dashboard solutions (Power BI) and MLOps tooling (MLflow, Azure ML).
What you bring:
To excel as an AI Software Engineer in this organisation’s technology team, you will bring deep expertise in Python programming—especially writing typed code supported by thorough testing methodologies. Your background includes building scalable cloud solutions on Azure or similar platforms while maintaining secure operations through managed identities. You have successfully integrated complex datasets from SQL databases or modern warehouses like Snowflake into analytics environments via robust pipelines. Your familiarity with CI/CD processes ensures smooth deployment cycles; you understand how observability tools contribute to system reliability. Experience working within regulated settings has honed your attention to detail regarding correctness and auditability. While exposure to agent-first development workflows or LLM/AI application engineering is advantageous, it’s your willingness to learn new approaches that sets you apart. Additional skills such as ERP integration techniques (SAP/OData/OAuth2), infrastructure-as-code practices (Key Vault/secrets management), BI enablement (Power BI), or MLOps tooling (MLflow/Azure ML) further strengthen your profile. Above all else, your interpersonal skills—collaboration, empathy, dependability—ensure you thrive within a supportive network focused on shared success.
- Proven experience writing typed Python code with rigorous unit/integration testing practices that ensure maintainable software solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to build and operate cloud services on Azure (Functions/serverless/event-driven architectures) or equivalent platforms using managed identity for secure operations.
- Comfortable integrating data from SQL databases and warehouses such as Snowflake or similar technologies by constructing efficient pipelines between operational stores and analytics layers.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD principles combined with hands-on experience managing git workflows; adept at implementing observability through structured logging, tracing, and metrics.
- Ability to work effectively within regulated enterprise contexts where correctness and auditability are essential for compliance.
- Experience with agent-first software development codebases/workflows is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with LLM/AI application engineering including prompt integration, Azure OpenAI services, document/OCR pipelines is considered beneficial.
- Knowledge of SAP or other enterprise ERP integration methods (OData protocols/OAuth2 client credentials) would be valuable.
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code practices alongside Key Vault/secrets management/workload identity enhances suitability for this role.
- Understanding of BI/dashboard enablement (Power BI) as well as evaluation/MLOps tooling (MLflow/Azure ML) is desirable.
