Leading with impact: Gina Connew’s journey as Marketing Director at Robert Walters

Gina Connew is the Marketing Director for Robert Walters Australia and New Zealand. With extensive experience across Sydney, Melbourne, and London, she has built a unique career in marketing. Gina recounts her story below.

Before joining Robert Walters just over a year ago, I worked in advertising and corporate marketing with industry leaders like Hays, Qantas, and DDB Sydney. Each role brought its own challenges and growth opportunities, but I found myself seeking a position where I could be more hands-on in shaping a business’s narrative while keeping strategy at the forefront. I made the move into recruitment marketing because it allowed me to combine creativity with commercial decision-making.

You’re constantly influenced by what’s going on in the world around you, which means you have to adapt your marketing strategy and approach accordingly.

Since starting at Robert Walters, I’ve experienced tremendous professional growth. The collaborative culture and the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across the business have been incredibly rewarding. It’s a role where I’m encouraged to think strategically while also being deeply involved in the execution of campaigns.

One of the aspects I value most about Robert Walters is how the company balances high performance with the human side of work. As a mother of two, balancing work and family is essential. Robert Walters’ commitment to hybrid working has been invaluable in enabling me to manage both local and global priorities while still being present for my children.

I’ve found that setting clear weekly tasks and organising my schedule meticulously helps me stay on top of everything. This structured approach allows me to excel in my role while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
