Life after the field: promoting career transition for rugby players with RUPA
In a collaborative effort to support professional athletes in their career transitions, the Rugby Union Players’ Association (RUPA) recently hosted a networking event for the Australian Men’s Rugby Sevens squad. The event, aimed at facilitating discussions on post-sport opportunities, saw the presence of industry professionals and sponsors, including Robert Walters.
As RUPA's Official Designated Recruitment partner, we actively participated in the event. Andrew Hanson, the Managing Director of Robert Walters Sydney, delivered a keynote emphasising the importance of relationships, personal branding, and networking in pivoting from professional sports to alternate career paths.
"It was great to catch up with the Men’s Rugby Sevens squad and discuss the significance of investing in relationships, personal branding, and networking for transitioning from professional sports to post-career life. Professional sports offer several transferable skills valuable in the corporate world, where success demands strategy, skill, and support. Our aim is to equip athletes with the necessary tools and guidance for successful career transitions and achieving their full potential."
In line with this partnership, Robert Walters commits to providing tailored support for both past and present players. This support includes specialised one-on-one or group sessions with Recruitment Specialists, focusing on enhancing CV writing skills, interview techniques, identifying transferable skills, and exploring career opportunities. The collaboration aims to equip players with a comprehensive toolbox of resources to navigate their career development beyond the sports arena.
The event served as a testament to the commitment of both RUPA and Robert Walters in empowering athletes to thrive beyond their sporting careers, reinforcing the importance of strategic partnerships and mentorship in facilitating successful transitions. We look forward to continuing to aid players in their career transitions and educational pursuits beyond the field. Learn more about our partnership.
