Jane Lowney wins recruiter of the year

Robert Walters, Head of Infrastructure and Engineering, Jane Lowney has just been awarded ‘Recruiter of the Year’ by RCSA, for her operational excellence and unwavering focus on helping to nurture the next generation of Australian engineers.

The ‘Recruiter of the Year’ category was one of the most hotly contested with Jane a stand out among her peers due to her international experience, stakeholder engagement and strong network across major projects in the environment, civil infrastructure, oil and gas, power generation and water infrastructure sectors.

Most notably, Jane has been passionate about diversity during her career, which has been a constant challenge in industries where there are nine male engineers for every woman.

Engineering for me isn’t just about building roads and shifting dirt. It’s about creating something positive and sustainable for the community and the ability to cater to a diverse range of people

"Female engineers are massively under-represented in the workforce, while they are also few and far between at senior leadership levels of infrastructure projects. I want to change that for the next generation,” said Ms Lowney.

The passion for progress has meant Jane has worked actively with her clients to inform new diverse work practices that challenge the status quo.

Robert Walters Managing Director - ANZ, James Nicholson, said the award was testament to Jane’s unwavering commitment to her clients and her focus on the next generation of engineers, “One of Jane’s regional clients had a workforce that was heavily skewed towards male employees. With Jane’s input, they invited students from local girls’ schools to tour their sites, hoping to develop and encourage future apprentices, everyone got on board and that’s how real change happens.”

Commenting on her award Jane reflects on the last twelve months, “I am thrilled to have won this award. The last year has been significant for my career, culminating in my appointment as the national lead for the engineering and infrastructure business at Robert Walters in Australia. The next twelve months are going to be equally significant as I turn my attention to developing bespoke delivery models to better support our clients. I will also be continuing to develop our recruitment team to ensure they are recognised as industry leaders, and in doing so, continue our commitment to clients of adding real value.”

A panel of independent recruitment experts judged Jane as ‘Recruiter of the Year’ at the RCSA awards ceremony held at the Peninsula in Melbourne on 14 June 2018.
